If a patient is assessed as not meeting the Low Priority Procedure criteria for a given procedure, a GP may request the procedure through an Individual Funding Request (IFR). The GP or referring clinicians should:
- Apply via an IFR process ONLY when they believe that the patient has ‘exceptional’ or ‘rare’ clinical circumstances as defined within the policy of each LPP
- Manage the patient's expectations by reminding them that the outcome of an IFR is decided by a panel. The panel will apply strict criteria on a case by case basis to ensure that approval is only given in exceptional cases.
If you need to discuss an Individual Funding Request, please contact the IFR Team
