Below are notes to clarify some queries that have been raised about the NHS Health Checks.
- The NHS health checks do not require the use of a fasting blood test as the blood is only being used to test for cholesterol, therefore this also means that all parts of the NHS health check can be delivered by practices on the same day.
The blood taken for the NHS health checks is just for testing cholesterol so is allowed to be kept without being refrigerated at room temperature overnight , giving practices more flexibility as to when they deliver the NHS health checks
Claim for all checks performed
- Please ensure you claim on the Public Health LCS quarterly claim forms for all your standard and targeting health checks you deliver.
Collection of protected characteristics data
- As part of the new NHS Health Checks specification, practices need to collect protected characteristics data for patients who are receiving a NHS health check. This data can be collected using the form provided in the NHS Health Checks Service Specification.
- An online training resource that staff can access for free is available here. This resource was developed by HEA East Midlands, and requires users to register to use it.
